A Much Needed Update

I'm trying to not look at the dates as I write this post...hoping that I don't have to own up to how long it has been since my last post.  Perhaps it's just a reminder that life gets away from all of us and for me, as long as I am still taking photos to capture those moments as they rush by, that's completely okay for today.

So here is a short summary of some things I have been taking these past few months.

Senior Portraits
I was so fortunate to take pictures for Courtney, Jena, Bridget and Nate.  Simply put...senior portraits are too much fun!

Babies and Kids...also known as pure joy!

This next set of pictures is from a photo shoot that was very near to my heart.  It is my lovely sister Emily and her wonderful fiancĂ© Adam!  Capturing their joy and love was simply the best!

Thanks for stopping by!  Tune in next time for a wedding update!

Paul and Tracy

Paul and Tracy are engaged!  They will be married in the summer of 2012 and are such a cute and fun couple.  We had a wonderful evening at Rood Bridge Park celebrating their engagement with this photo shoot.  I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding next summer!

Summer Photo Fun

I love photographing in June.  There is just something about the colors, the lighting and the textures that makes photographs...well...delicious!
Here is a little sample of what I have been working on this summer so far.

Megan and Quentin's Engagement Photos

These two will be married this Summer!  They are such a delight to work with and I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding in a few weeks.  What a beautiful couple!

Marilyn's Promotion Shoot

Marilyn is starting up a Norweigan paper company.  Staying true to the traditions of her Scandinavian heritage, she asked me to photograph her in a traditional Norweigan dress.  It was so interesting to hear all about the meaning of each detail of her outfit.  Who knew that photographing could be educational too!

Emily's Graduation Portraits

Emily just graduated from the University of Oregon and we celebrated her achievements with a portrait session.  She brought her own style to the photo shoot and she was such a delight to photograph!

Blogging world...it's time that I join you

Hello to the world of blogging.  It has taken me a while to get here but I am thrilled to have finally arrived.  I don't fancy myself to be a writer...perhaps that is why I so often find myself behind a camera lens.  I have been photographing for years, and dreaming of photographing for far longer than that.  I can still remember pulling out my dad's old film camera and just staring at the lenses, filters and other mysterious pieces of equipment.  There was one day that I mustered up the courage to try out that old camera, and I remember dreaming of awing everyone at my "natural skill".  Imagine my disappointment when that first roll of film returned and about the only object in focus was my finger in the way of the shutter.  I suppose that wasn't enough to deter my efforts because about 15 years later I still have that same giddy feeling as I pull out my camera equipment.  I still find myself walking a little bit taller with a camera around my neck and while I have certainly learned a thing or two about shutters, light, framing and keeping my fingers out of the picture, I still dream about photography.
I have realized something over the past 5 years as a professional photographer.  When starting my own business I chose the name Origin Photography because I wanted to capture the essence of who people are and where they are from.  I have realized that our origin, where we come from, is so much more than a beautiful image, but rather it is the story behind the photograph and these stories must be told.  It is my belief and hope that the photos I take are an artistic reflection of the image of where and Who we come from.  I suppose that it the purpose of this blog...to share the moments and stories behind the photographs that I am so blessed to take.  Some postings will be weddings, senior pictures, families, special memories or things that really don't have a category.  I can't promise consistent upkeep or eloquent words, but it is my sincere hope that you are blessed by the things you find here are Origin Photography.  So...sit back and invite your friends and let's celebrate where and Who we come from together.
